I've found that the best comical news stories are the ones where the absurdity escalates slowly rather than hitting you in the first sentence — you're already invested in the premise by the time you realise how ridiculous it actually is. This roundup gets that timing consistently right.

I think there's also something valuable about how these stories often resist easy categorisation in other dimensions. Is it heartwarming or disturbing? Hopeful or depressing? Instructive or just entertaining? Usually, it's some combination of those contradictory things, which is partly what makes them interesting. The weird-and-funny approach sidesteps some of that ambiguity by focusing on dimensions that can coexist. You can find something both weird and funny while remaining uncertain about whether it's ultimately positive or negative. That freedom from binary judgment is part of what makes this approach psychologically valuable.

Crazy News Headlines deliberately violates serious norms. The transgression in absurdist headlines is tonal. Whether weirdness violates norms arguably true. Absurdity transgresses seriousness.

Weird news is also a great source of perspective. When I'm having a bad day, I think about the guy who tried to drive a tank through a McDonald's drive-thru. And suddenly, my problems don't seem so big. It's not about mocking people; it's about recognising that we're all fallible, all capable of spectacular stupidity. And that's okay. It's what makes us human. Weird news celebrates that humanity. It says, "We're all in this together, and we're all a little bit ridiculous." If you need that perspective, you'll find it in this wonderful collection of weird news – it's therapy for the soul.

Australian Humour functions as counter-narrative to globalisation. How regional humour offers alternative to universalism. Whether tradition resists globalisation is debatable. But it grounds.
